The Outside Jump To: Carport | Pine Tree | Backyard | "Hatchway" | Side | Front The "carport" coming down... The lower pine tree branches coming down...
You can see how big the pine tree is from this view next to the oak. Pictures of the backyard, from nearly every angle imaginable...
The problemetic Bilko doors... The ivy-covered, termite-damaged side of the house...
Here is how the story goes, as told to us by several neighbors: Sometime before we bought the house, the former owner decided that the front corner of the house was as good a place as any to dispose of their Christmas tree. Much to their surprise, it rooted into the ground and grew into a tall pine tree. Many years later, only after the pine tree's roots pushed a crack in the foundation, the former owners realized that perhaps this tree should not be so close to the house, and they took it down. Unfortunately, they did not remove or grind out the stump, which soon became the happy new home of many termite families. So the problem went from bad to worse. The 1st picture above shows the basement window after Ry removed the chewed up wood frame surrounding it. The 2nd picture shows what's left of the pine tree stump. The stump must be completely removed before a mason can come in and fix the foundation. Fortunately, the house was treated for termites before we moved in, and we have seen no activity since. But the damage has been done. And finally, the front... The day we moved in, there were red and white striped awnings over both sets of front windows and over the left side window. The day AFTER we moved in, Ryan removed those, and then this picture was taken. Notice how the front roofline is different on either side of the porch awning...?
