Back to the Basement

We've been busy beavers. Chipping up the last of the old tile:

(We started this project, oh, seven years ago?)

Painting the stairwell and stairs:

Stairwell

Here's the stairwell after painting the walls and the trim, and priming the steps, and before painting the steps. No, that painter's tape DID NOT WORK. And no, I don't want to talk about it.

Steps Up Close

Below, ou can see the old, peeling paint on the off-white wall, as well as the new cinderblock walls in the laundry area before we painted them:

(Click on the pic above to enlarge — at least the kids weren't deterred by the giant mess we were making.

Already done in these photos: Replaced the wall down the center of the basement, which divides the workshop / storage area from the rec room / craft area / laundry area, changed out the fluorescent tubes for recessed lights, and sheet rocked / painted the wall around the bottom of the steps.

Not pictured: Scraped and painted the basement walls (the old paint was peeling, so we had to scrape all the bubbles off), painted the laundry area, and put up shelves. We're still not sure what we'll be doing on the floor (the tiles were held down with asphalt...it's a mess) or on the ceiling (don't want to sheet rock...). Plus, waterproofing would be a good idea before we get too ahead of ourselves.

More "After" photos to come...

I've been on your pages for a couple hours going through your blog pics. I got here looking for tiling ideas, and stayed for the whole house renovation. The house looks like a well-loved home from beginning to present. And, it is so beautiful to see this young couple starting out become this big gorgeous family. Three babies! I swear I didn't think I had a maternal bone in my body, but looking at your family grow (in this brief glimpse) kinda makes me want to rethink it.
