Slacking Off

We've been dragging our heels on the finishing touches. I guess the last 10% really does take the longest. It seems once you're living in your renovation, you develop an "I can live with that for now" mentality, as you develop new priorities.

What? There are other things in life besides the house?

Lily Asleep in Mama's Arms - Self Portrait

Why yes, it seems there are.
(Her bib says, "Thank heaven for little girls." Darn straight.)

Did you honestly think I would go this long without posting a Lily photo? Hah!

But seriously, we have gotten SOME things done. For instance, Ryan and my dad built the trim for over the front door back in December. We really wanted to curve the trim to match the curve of the window, but after the kitchen counter edge bending fiasco, we decided to forego that dream and square it off to match the rest of the trim in the house.

Sorry the color is so off in that second picture. It was really bright outside with the snow.

Ryan also built and installed the trim over the hot tub window...

So this is proof that, yes, things ARE getting done around here. Just not as frequently as before. Which is AOK by me.

Tag, You're It

A few months back (yeah, I'm a little slow), I was tagged by Bill at Enon Hall to list five things about myself that Internetland most likely does not know. This is going to be a little difficult now that the cat's outta the bag about Lily. She was kept underwraps online for quite some time.

Lily in her Bumbo Seat
"Who, me?"

Sorry. I can't help myself. Just took that one this morning. So anyway, here goes...

  1. I'm an awful procrastinator (see intro paragraph).
  2. I have not cleaned a single toilet since I've been married (see #1).
  3. I am madly in love with my husband (see #2).
  4. Here are the shows I have set to record on Ryan's Media Center PC:
    • Smallville
    • Gilmore Girls
    • America's Next Top Model
    • Beauty and the Geek
    • Heroes
    • Prison Break
  5. Ryan proposed to me on New Year's Eve. I did not accept until New Year's Day. Have I mentioned I have a fear of commitment? That boy is always one step ahead of me — he wanted to date me first, said "I love you" first, proposed first (and second and third), wanted to buy a house first, turned 30 first, cleans the toilets first, etc. At least I had a baby first. So there. ;)

The First Signs of Spring

The good news: My plants from Tamara last Spring are sending up new shoots.

The bad news: I have no idea what anything is.

We planted these perennials last Spring after they had already come up, so I never had the privilege of seeing what they looked like when they first popped through the soil. I'm curious to see what will be what.

Just yesterday, I was saying how I'd better get out the Deer Off and spray my bulbs before the deer get to them. No such luck. This afternoon, I discovered that deer have eaten ALLLL my tulips. Not a single one left anywhere. It's like they know purple tulips are my absolute favorite and have eaten them all, just to mess with me.

Eaten Tulips

Last Spring, the deer ate all my NEIGHBOR'S tulips and for some reason never touched mine. That didn't make me quite as mad. I guess it was my turn.

The weather outside has been so beautiful. All of a sudden, it feels like Spring. Warm sun, cool breeze, curtains billowing in the windows...just perfect. Every afternoon, Lily and I have been taking walks around the neighborhood. She likes to look around and eventually falls asleep. I'll admit, I enjoy this easy nap routine, though I know I won't always be able to trick her to sleep.

In fact, she's still asleep in her stroller from today's walk, which is why I'm able to sit here on the front porch with the laptop, waxing poetic about Spring. There is a squirrel in one of the pine trees, making the strangest barking sound I've ever heard. If that is supposed to be some kind of mating call, he doesn't stand a chance.
