Third Time's a Charm

I thought I'd make a quick post on my lunch break to update everyone on what's been going on at Raise the Ranch during the last few months' scant postings. We have been hard at work (or hardly working?) scraping the tile in the kitchen, cutting/filling/painting/nailing up trim (though not all in that order), and accomplishing other miscellaneous house-related tasks.

Ryan has made wonderful progress installing all of the trim above and below the windows and doors — the verticals have been up for quite some time now. That meant that this weekend, we took our first "window treatment" trip to Ikea.

That's such a funny term...window treatment.

Anyway, we arrived with high hopes and left with one set of tan curtains for the red room and roman shades for the dining room. We already have three sets of roll-up bamboo blinds from a Pier-1 clearance event earlier this year for the red room, yellow room, and back hall upstairs that can finally be hung, as well.

Photos to come of the "treatments" and trim. Don't have my USB cable here at work, though of course I always have my camera.

Our kitchen countertop progress has not, um, progressed since the last post. The Wilsonart laminate has arrived and is awaiting installation in the kitchen, similar to the dishwasher that magically doubles as a TV stand, but seeing as we have yet to figure out the edging situation, this project is at a stand-still. Good thing we have so many other projects to divert our attention elsewhere, otherwise, we'd actually have to come up with a SOLUTION.

What I REALLY wanted to mention was that this is a very important month in our household. Ryan's birthday just passed, my birthday is less than a week away, and in a few short days (the 23rd, to be precise), Raise the Ranch will celebrate its second birthday.

The site, not the house.

That means this is our THIRD March chronicling our home improvement misadventures for the internet world to see. And from another point of view, this is the THIRD March we are still not done with the house.

Haha.

Trim Pictures

As promised, here are pictures of the trim....

Kitchen Windows

The wonderful, deep kitchen window sill (now filled with germinating seeds).

Honeybug

Honeybug is diggin' it.

Dining Room

The Roman shades from Ikea in the dining room — otherwise known as the bedroom, until we get our C.O. and can use the upstairs. (Notice the bed?)

Green Hall

The upstairs hall — the master bedroom a.k.a. workshop door and the guest bath door.

Shades

And the roll-up shades from Pier1 that have been in the bag since I bought them months and months ago. The brown/white checked blinds are for the red room, the traditional bamboo blinds are for the yellow room (it will have a fun tropical feel, complete with hula bedskirt — ooh la la), and the narrow earthly brown/green shades are for the green back hall.

Wall Color Pictures

My recent post showing Ryan's excellent trimming skills made me realize I've never posted photos of most of our wall colors. You will notice that we here at Raise the Ranch are not afraid of color.

Well, one of us isn't. The other lets himself be pushed around once in a while. ;)

I've taken photos from two of my favorite places to stand in the house...

upstairs

Upstairs in the red room...

downstairs

...and downstairs in the dining room.

The only colors in our whole house not represented by these two views are the upstairs bathroom (which is darker than the back hall), the master bedroom (which is the only room yet be painted), and the master bath (which is still in progress).

And as a follow-up to the last trim post, here is a picture of the most completed room in the house...

living room

...the living room (which is the same color as the back hall, since they connect).

See all the birthday cards on the entertainment center...? =)

Continue on to Next Month...
